Challenge
Challenge

The client needed to validate CO₂ vaporization performance under controlled operating conditions. The process required stable pressure, temperature, and flow control, as CO₂ behaviour is highly dependent on its phase boundaries. Operating outside these limits could have caused incomplete vaporization, frost formation, pressure instability, or equipment damage. In addition, the pilot needed to generate sufficiently detailed performance data to support future scale-up decisions.

Solution
Solution

Intero engineered and deployed a fully integrated pilot-scale test facility to evaluate CO₂ vaporization performance under controlled conditions. The solution combined an 18,000 L cryogenic liquid CO₂ storage tank, a common distribution manifold, dedicated instrumentation, and two vaporizer technologies: a fan-forced ambient vaporizer and a hot-water vaporizer integrated with a 300 kW boiler. Continuous digital data logging enabled real-time monitoring and direct performance comparison to support future scale-up decisions.

Outcome
Outcome

The pilot confirmed stable CO₂ vaporization across all tested flow rates for both vaporizer systems. Outlet temperatures remained controlled, pressure levels stayed stable, and no uncontrolled frost formation, pressure excursions, or safety incidents were recorded. All performance data was captured digitally, enabling direct comparison between the two technologies and supporting confident scale-up analysis.
